... was the title of the Keynote address I gave to 500+ educators at this year's B.Y.T.E. conference. The sense I had of the audience was that many of the ideas I talked about here were new to them. A quick survey of the room while giving the talk revealed only about three people had heard of Wolfram Alpha and I think about the same number had heard of the TPACK Framework.

I hope I get a chance to do this talk again. There are a number of things I think I could have done better.

Last week I was interviewed by Carly Shuler. We talked about many things. Mainly she wanted to talk about the future of the textbook in the digital age from the perspective of textbook publishers.

The interview was about 50 minutes long so I've broken it down into 4 or 5 chunks.

On Tuesday I was invited to speak to Alec Couros' eCurriculum and Instruction class; EC&I 831. Alec is a great host. He has an easy comfortable manner and everything went off very smooth in eluminate.

When Alec first asked me to give this talk, a few months back, we discussed what form the presentation might take. After a bit of brainstorming I decided to continue the meme Clarence Fisher started, continued by Doug Belshaw and Dean Shareski, in his K12 Online Keynote presentation.

So, here is my riff on "A Day In The Life." The slides are below. Alec posted a summary of it on the course wiki and the full video and audio recording in Elluminate is available here ... I wonder if there's a way to capture the Eluminate recording in some sort of screencast format?

Just saw this. Woah ...

The phrase mind control more often makes me think of Derren Brown ...

They're installing a smartboard in my classroom as I write this. It's a permanently mounted affair with the projector hung from the ceiling overhead. I'm also getting a wireless, bluetooth mouse and keyboard and I think they said I'm getting a wireless tablet too (not sure about that last one). I can't remember being so excited to go to work in the morning. ;-)

A shoutout to Terry Kaminsky and Ryan Maksymchuk for their advice, suggestions and offers to share resources. Everyone I know who has ever adopted the use of a smartboard says it has made them a better teacher. I'm looking forward to learning how this will change my teaching too. ;-)

Update February 14
My school received 4 SmartBoards yesterday. I'm on the second floor ... so I'm going to be the last install. I don't know how long it'll take them to get to me but I hope it will be before the end of the week. ;-)
