(Don't) Help Find Evan Trembley

10/16/2007 12:10:00 am

Thanks to the commenters (see comments) who have pointed out I have been hoodwinked. All that follows is a hoax. Now I know to always check stuff out for myself. Sometimes the people I trust get hoodwinked and pass that on. My mistake; you'd think I'd know better.

I just received this in email from a reliable source. Please feel free to copy and redistribute this post and image. My answer to the last sentence below is: "Yes. I would."

My 15 year old boy, Evan Trembley, is missing. He has been missing for now two weeks.

Maybe if everyone passes this on, someone will see this child. That is how the girl from Stevens Point was found by circulation of her picture on tv. The internet circulates even overseas, South America , and Canada etc. Please pass this to everyone in your address book. With G-D on his side he will be found.

'I am asking you all, begging you to please forward this email on to anyone and everyone you know, PLEASE.

It is still not too late. Please help us. If anyone knows anything, please contact me at: HelpfindEvanTrembley@yahoocom

I am including a picture of him.

All prayers are appreciated! ! '

It only takes 2 seconds to forward this.

If it was your child, you would want all the help you could get!!

It took me less than ten seconds to dispove this hoax. You can see the discussion at the snopes anti-hoax site.

  8. Unbeliveably, it's still going around.

I've blogged it as a hoax to spread awareness.

  9. stuff like this REALLY riles me....

when there are so many people that REALLY are missing and do need people's help and then people do stuff like THIS... ARGHGHGHGH!!!

I think the people that are forwarding them are partly to blame too for being so naive and not checking something that sounds so fake and pathetic out before posting it all over the world... :@

@Richard: That's great. The more people who know it's a hoax, and how to determine that it is for themselves, the better.

@Kelsey: I wouldn't cast aspersions on people who forward this. I think they do so out of a genuine desire to do good. I like the way Richard approaches the issue. Empower the people who mistakenly forward this sort of stuff by publicizing the hoax and transparently illustrating how you know that.

i think that this is terrible there are kids out there missing, and people can make jokes out of it.Imagen if this happened to one of your family members, im sure you would be feeling pretty upset;but yet again it does show people really do care about this matter and genuinely consined about this issues, but this email that was posted has been sent around the world.and people might be out there looking for someone that isn't even missing

  13. This is so easily spotted as a hoax. No real information to use to find this boy for one. I do not think negatively about those who forward these emails. They are caring people who only want to help. But you must begin to think for yourselves folks. It is sad when we have to wonder if everything we see is false. Think first - did I hear about this on the news? If you live in the area did you hear about the Amber Alert? Have you received these types of emails before?

I have received some that were real ut out dated. Some ask you to pray for a child with cancer only to look them up and find they died some time ago and the email is still making the rounds. Not everyone in the world wishes to do good. Sadly, some just want to be noticed.
